Schumer backs dentistry bill

Rochester Democrat and Chronicle

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer announced his support Wednesday for a bill that would establish grants to encourage more pediatric dentists to work in inner cities and rural areas.

The bill, introduced by Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, would also set up grants to help community health centers expand dental services, provide tax credits of up to $5,000 for dentists who treat Medicaid and uninsured patients, help fund dental programs that offer training in pediatrics, and direct the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to launch an education and prevention campaign on children's dental health.
