WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced on Monday that $329,987 has been awarded to Rural Action Inc., headquartered in The Plains, by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to support AmeriCorps service programs. This funding will allow for 26 AmeriCorps volunteers to work with Rural Action to improve water quality in the Appalachian region of southeast Ohio through public education and awareness, research, and stream and river projects.
“AmeriCorps service members exemplify what it means to serve — they volunteer to help their neighbors, protect our environment, and educate communities,” Brown said. “This funding will allow them to continue their critical work to protect southeast Ohio’s water supply.”
