United States Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced on Tuesday that the Senate Appropriations Committee approved $400,000 to establish 2-1-1 call centers and service in areas where they do not currently exist.
The 2-1-1 number was set aside by the Federal Communications Commission for Americans to retrieve information and referral on a variety of human services. Over 2.8 million Ohioans currently do not have 2-1-1 service. The funds will bring 2-1-1 service to 23 counties that currently lack the service and have poverty levels over the state average.
