Edge Plastics at 449 Newman St. in Mansfield is reaping the benefits from a grant through the State Energy Program.
U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, visited the company Thursday to see first-hand how the funding has allowed the business to grow. The $652,000 grant comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Edge Plastics owner Shelly Fisher said the grant rejuvenated the entire organization. She said the grant allowed the company to invest in new equipment and gain additional business. She said the company hired 50 people and the company's suppliers also hired 21 new employees due in part to the increase in business they received from Edge Plastics.
Fisher said the grant help to rebuild the economy in Mansfield and Richland County.
Fisher said Sen. Brown, Gov. Ted Strickland, State Representative Jay Goyal and Mayor Don Culliver worked together to bring the grant to Ohio.
