With Ohio propane suppliers feeling the sting of increased supply costs, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) sent a letter urging the U.S. Small Business Administration to use the full extent of its resources to backstop short-term loans to small businesses impacted by the national propane shortage.
This winter’s extremely low temperatures, coupled with other contributing circumstances, has caused the price of propane to increase 19 percent compared to last year, resulting in substantial financial hardships for small propane suppliers.
“Although the price of propane has come down a bit, Ohio’s propane suppliers are still feeling the effects of a winter where supply prices increased more than 19 percent,” Brown said. “It’s crucial that small businesses in Ohio receive the short-term help they need to keep their doors open and continue to supply families and small businesses with the resources they need to stay warm through the remainder of this rough winter.”
