As the U.S. Senate struggled with the size and details of an economic recovery bill yesterday, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D., Ohio) touted the value of the proposed package for creating jobs and funding necessary sewer, water, highway, and bridge construction in Ohio.

Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. George Voinovich (R., Ohio) said he was helping craft a compromise between Democrats and his Republican colleagues aimed at funding only projects that are "shovel ready," are a federal obligation, or meet the "human needs" caused by the recession.

"This bill will go a long way to turning Ohio's economy around," Mr. Brown said in a conference call with Ohio reporters.
