About 150,000 more Ohio schoolchildren could benefit from the national school lunch program under new legislation announced Wednesday by U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Avon.

Some 700,000 Ohio schoolchildren are enrolled in programs for free and reduced-price lunches, but Brown contends that his bill would ensure additional children receive benefits.

A recent Department of Agriculture report found that up to 14 percent of Ohio students eligible for the programs are not enrolled.
