WASHINGTON -- Sen. Sherrod Brown will ask the White House to nominate U.S. Magistrate Timothy Black of Cincinnati for a seat on the federal bench in Columbus.

Although President Barack Obama could still nominate another candidate, a U.S. senator's recommendation will carry great weight with the White House. Brown, an Ohio Democrat, chose Black after interviewing him and two other finalists who had been selected by a 17-member judicial advisory panel.
