Senators maintain call for loan guarantee

GOP Sen. George V. Voinovich of Ohio is a big proponent of expanding nuclear energy in this country. And both Voinovich and Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio are actively pushing for a federal loan guarantee to help USEC build a $3.5 billion uranium-enrichment plant in southern Ohio.

So it wasn't a big surprise when, last week, Voinovich both praised the Department of Energy's decision to award a $2 billion loan guarantee to a competing enrichment plant in Idaho and issued a thinly veiled call for Obama administration officials to grant a second one to the USEC initiative in Piketon.
