Despite assurances from the Obama administration before Christmas that funding for GE Aviation's alternative engine for the Joint Strike Fighter would continue through March 4, the Evendale-based engine maker said Wednesday it's still waiting for the government's check.

In a sharply worded letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown and two other Senate supporters of the GE alternative engine urged Gates to release the funds, amounting to $80 million over the next two months.
