U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) has obtained 129 overdue and replacement medals for 23 Northeast Ohio veterans and their family members. In a ceremony at the Summit County Veterans Service Commission Dec. 2., representatives from Brown's office, along with Major General Dan Hahn (U.S. Army Ret.) and Commander of Chapter 699 Military Order of the Purple Heart Paul Suscinski, presented the veterans and their families with these medals. Medals awarded included one Distinguished Flying Cross, four Bronze Stars, and three Purple Hearts.
"Ohio's veterans made invaluable contributions to our fight for worldwide peace and democracy. Our state's current and former servicemembers have answered the call to action without delay throughout our nation's history," Brown said. "As a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, one of the most rewarding aspects of my job is fighting for Ohio's veterans by ensuring that they receive the benefits they so richly deserve."
Medals were presented to the sons of Francis Baumgardner, David Baumgardner and Tod Baumgardner, both of Stow.
