The Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded $49,400 in federal funding by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced on July 2 that the federal resources have been awarded for operations and safety. The funding is part of the round 11 competitive Fiscal Year 2013 AFG program announcements.

“Firefighters put their lives on the line each day to keep our communities safe,” Brown said. “These new federal resources will help ensure that Stockdale’s skilled responders have the updated resources they need to safely do their jobs.”
“The grant money will be used to purchase new turnout gear for all our fireman and also to purchase a washer/extractor for cleaning our gear, which gets pretty dirty on some of the runs we make,” stated Charlie Brunner, chief of the Stockdale Fire Department.
