United Way gets $20,650 to expand tax prep program

Plans call for taking services even farther into the county

CHILLICOTHE -- It's been quite a run for the local Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition.

Earlier this year, the Ross County United Way-sponsored program reported having generated more than $1.3 million in tax refunds through its volunteer work on behalf of local taxpayers in 2010.

On Wednesday, it learned the United Way would be getting additional federal funding to continue its growth.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, made the announcement Wednesday that the Ross County United Way will be awarded $20,650 for its EITC Coalition program. The funding comes from the Internal Revenue Service to increase the capacity of organizations such as the coalition to file returns electronically, enhance volunteer training and improve accuracy of returns filed by Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program sites, such as the local coalition.
