NORTH OLMSTED -- A local veteran who served his country in 3 wars and earned distinction for showing extreme courage in helping to rescue a pilot during the Vietnam War, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross at a ceremony on Monday.
Mayor Thomas O'Grady, and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) joined together to present the award to D. Brock Foster, Major U.S. Air Force (retired). Nearly 40 years ago, Foster performed the feat of heroism that earned him distinction. At the time, Maj. Foster was given a certificate notifying him of his receipt of the Distinguished Flying Cross. However, an oversight kept him from actually receiving the award.
