A Vietnam veteran received his Purple Heart and Bronze Star medal on Tuesday – 43 years after he earned them.

James Edward Bond Jr. , an Army combat medic in Vietnam, was also awarded the National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign ribbon with device, Expert Badge with rifle bar and Marksman Badge with rifle bar.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Oh, presented Bond his medals at Parkway Center at Talbert House.

Bond, 63, of East Price Hill wanted the ceremony to be held at Parkway Center for a simple reason: to be around other veterans. About eight veterans surrounded him, applauding when he got his medals.
