The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee has approved $200,000 for the Middletown Regional Health System's Greentree Health Science Academy.

The money was included in a labor and health appropriations bill for fiscal 2009.

If the proposal stays in the final version of the bill, the money will be used for more classrooms at Greentree, which in turn could help reduce the state's shortage of health care workers, said Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Lorain, and George Voinovich, R-Cleveland.
