On July 2, 2021, Miss Elsie Young, an Ohio civil rights champion, passed away at the age of 105. In the 1950s, two all-white schools in Hillsboro, Ohio refused to integrate, despite the Brown v. Board of Education decision. Miss Elsie and a group of mothers fought to integrate the schools, even taking the fight all the way to the Supreme Court - so their children could have equal access to the education they deserved.
