WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) is alerting Ohioans around Meigs County to free health screenings available through the Ohio River Medical Mission – a ten day event that gives Ohioans in the area access to free medical, dental, vision, and veterinary services. The Ohio River Medical Mission is an Army Innovative Readiness Training that provides real world training opportunities for military servicemembers and units ahead of their missions while also giving underserved communities access to important services. The 7241st Medical Support Unit, Army Reserve Command is performing the mission. This is the first time a Readiness Training mission has been hosted in Ohio.

“The Ohio River Medical Mission is providing critical, free services in southeast Ohio, while also giving servicemembers the training they need to prepare for future missions,” said Brown. “I welcome the 7241st Medical Support Unit to our state and thank its members for their service. Ohioans in Pomeroy and the surrounding communities should use this opportunity to access free health, vision, and dental services.”

The event is a partnership between: 7241st Medical Support Unit, Army Reserve Command; Buckeye Hills-Hocking Valley Regional Development District; and Meigs County Commissioners.

All services are provided at no charge and are provided by trained medical, dental, vision and veterinary professionals. There will be no appointments; services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis with limited slots available. Any resident living in the area can receive no-cost treatment. There are no age, geography, income or insurance requirements. Services will include, but are not limited to: general health screenings; school sport physicals; dental screenings, extractions, and x-rays; vision screenings including visual acuity screenings, prescriptions for glasses or contacts, and single-vision glasses; behavioral health screenings; and community referrals. The veterinary services will include: basic screenings; spay/neuter (cats and dogs only; limit of 10 per day); rabies and canine/feline distemper vaccinations.
