WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) alerted Ohioans today to a new anti-fraud hotline for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). Brown encouraged all Ohioans to report any fraud, waste, abuse, or mismanagement of TARP funds passed as part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008.
“We need all hands on deck to ensure that every dollar of TARP funding is used to unfreeze the credit markets and stabilize our banking system,” Brown said. “This anti-fraud hotline will ensure aggressive oversight of TARP funds loaned to banks. This is about protecting taxpayer funds.”
The hotline was established by Special Inspector General of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP). Ohioans can call the hotline at (877) 744-2009 or submit a report online at http://sigtarp.gov.
Ohioans are encouraged to report any allegations of fraud, activities that might affect the integrity of the TARP program, and any misrepresentation or deceptive practices related to the program. Individuals contacting the hotline will be assured confidentiality of their contact information. More information on the program can be found on Brown’s website at www.brown.senate.gov.
