Brown Announces $105,500 to Support Law Enforcement in Galipolis

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the city of Gallipolis received $105,500 in funding through a competitive grant program to support crime reduction and prevention services. The federal funds, made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, were allocated through the Department of Justice (DOJ) Recovery Act Rural Law Enforcement Assistance Program.

“This is a critical investment in the safety and well-being of Gallipolis residents,” Brown said. “The economic downturn should not undermine the security of our communities. These funds will help keep Gallipolis safe while creating or retaining jobs in the process.”

The economic downturn has caused many counties to slash funding for critical law enforcement programs.  These recovery funds will be used to decrease probation caseloads, resulting in a positive impact on offenders who have substance abuse or mental health issues.
