WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $225,000 to the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership (TNP) through its Community Economic Development grant program. The funding will help create at least eight full-time positions at TNP, and TNP will hire low-income individuals to fill a majority of the positions.

“This funding is a win for Trumbull County,” said Brown. “By creating opportunities for residents to improve their own community, TNP is living up to its mission to empower citizens and serve every neighborhood. I’m glad the Department of Health and Human Services recognized the significant impact this grant will have on the region.”

Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership will direct the funding to a pilot program, Building a Better Warren. The program will hire low-income workers for jobs that will improve Trumbull County neighborhoods, such as property rehabilitation and ongoing property maintenance. The program will also partner with the Trumbull County Land Reutilization Corporation to focus rehabilitation work on properties in the Land Corporation’s current inventory.

“This program is all about putting our residents to work in quality, year-round jobs revitalizing our neighborhoods,” said Matt Martin, Executive Director of TNP. “We have merged the need for blight remediation with the need for meaningful workforce development, and we have leveraged multiple resources and partnerships to create this opportunity. This is an exciting program for our community."

HHS’ Community Economic Development federal grant program works to help low-income individuals and families become self-sufficient through employment and business development opportunities.
