WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded $250,000 to the Village of Coal Grove for the replacement of outdated and undersized waterlines and install 77 fire hydrants. The new water infrastructure will improve fire safety throughout the village, as well as water quality and service for more than 1,300 households and 57 businesses.
“Strong water and sewer infrastructure is critical to Ohio communities’ public health and economic competitiveness,” Brown said. “This funding will help clean up waterways and improve access to safe and clean water for Coal Grove residents. I will continue to advocate for resources so that Ohioans in small and rural communities have equal access to clean water.”
ARC supports Ohio and twelve other states across Appalachia to stimulate local economies, provide job training, expand broadband access in rural areas, and support local infrastructure needs. In 2017, after President Trump’s budget proposed eliminating the ARC program entirely, Brown pushed for continued support, and secured $165 million in allocated funds for the program. Brown has spoken out about the importance of ARC and against any cuts to the program.
