WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $50,000 Community Facilities grant to the Village of New Boston to purchase a new fire pumper truck and service vehicle. The USDA is also awarding a $500,000 Community Facilities loan to purchase these vehicles, bringing the total USDA funds available to $550,000. These vehicles will help the New Boston Fire Department provide emergency services to the village’s 2,272 residents.
“Ohio firefighters and first-responders work every day to protect our families,” said Brown. “This investment will ensure that the New Boston Fire Department has the resources it needs to keep Scioto County residents safe.”
The funds for this purchase are a part of the USDA’s Rural Development initiative. Brown helped secure a strong Rural Development title in the 2014 Farm Bill, and is continuing to advocate for Rural Development programs in the 2018 Farm Bill.
