WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today
announced that AmeriCorps has awarded two grants totaling $588,043 to Catholic
Charities of South Western Ohio in Cincinnati through the AmeriCorps Seniors
American Rescue Plan Senior Demonstration Program. These funds will be used to
engage adults age 55 and over to address priorities in their community. These
funds were made possible through the
American Rescue Plan, which Brown
helped write and pass.
“The AmeriCorps program is about empowering citizens to strengthen
their local communities,” said Brown. “These investments will
allow Catholic Charities of South Western Ohio to take on volunteers who will
help tackle local challenges, help local residents access important
resources, and further expand their efforts to improve the lives of Ohio
residents – with no out-of-pocket costs.”
AmeriCorps funding to Catholic Charities of South Western Ohio include:
- $367,657 to
fund 55 AmeriCorps Senior volunteers who will provide independent
living services in Clermont County. This funding is expected to increase
the social support for 100 clients.
- $220,386 to
fund 30 AmeriCorps Senior volunteers who will provide classroom
assistance in Butler County. This funding is expected to improve the
academic performance of 80 students.
