WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded a $77,000 Aviation Workforce Development grant to AeroTrek Flight Academy in Wadsworth. These funds will be used to engage high school students by giving them hands-on experience in aircraft maintenance, air traffic control, and working as a pilot. The grant will provide new classroom equipment and help fund the curriculum of 20 students per semester for two semesters.

“Thanks to this award from the Federal Aviation Administration, AeroTrek Flight Academy will be able to provide students the necessary exposure to different opportunities that exist in the aviation workforce,” Brown said. “This investment will have a significant economic impact in Wadsworth by helping promote and recruit those interested in Ohio’s growing aviation industry.”

The FAA is investing in the future aviation workforce to inspire and recruit the next generation of aviation professionals by providing grants to academia and the aviation community to help prepare a more inclusive talent pool of pilots and aviation maintenance technicians. These funds are made possible through the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018, section 625.
