WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $9,000,000 Rural Development loan to Midwest Electric for an electrical power expansion in Northwest Ohio. These funds will go toward the installation and repair of over 70 miles of power lines throughout Auglaize, Putnam, Allen, Darke, Shelby, Van Wert and Mercer Counties, as well as other system-wide improvements.
“Rural Ohioans face unique challenges in getting the power they need to keep the lights on,” said Brown. “This investment provides Midwest Electric with the resources it needs to ensure Northwest Ohio has access to the power needed to attract and create jobs and provide a secure power source for its customers.”
The funds for this project are a part of the USDA’s Electric Infrastructure Loan and Loan Guarantee Program. Brown helped secure a strong Rural Development title in the 2014 Farm Bill, and will continue to advocate for Rural Development programs in the 2018 Farm Bill.
