WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $50,000 Community Facilities grant to the Village of Barnesville to purchase a new police cruiser. The USDA is also awarding a $46,000 Community Facilities loan to purchase cruiser, bringing the total USDA funds available to $96,000. The new cruiser will replace older, unserviceable models.

“Ohio police officers and first-responders work every day to protect our families,” said Brown. “This investment will ensure that the Powhatan Point Police Department has the resources it needs to keep Barnesville residents safe.”

The funds for this purchase are a part of the USDA’s Rural Development initiative. Brown helped secure a strong Rural Development title in the 2014 Farm Bill, and is continuing to advocate for Rural Development programs in the 2018 Farm Bill.
