Brown Announces $98,000 for Fire Equipment in Richland County

Funding Will Go toward Communication, Support Equipment

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $50,000 Community Facilities grant to the City of Shelby to purchase new communication and support equipment. The USDA is also awarding a $48,000 Community Facilities loan to finance the purchase, bringing the total USDA funds available to $98,000.

“Ohio firefighters and first-responders work every day to protect our families,” said Brown.

“This investment will ensure the Shelby Fire Department has the resources it needs to keep Richland County residents safe.”

The funds for this purchase are a part of the USDA’s Rural Development initiative. Brown helped secure a strong Rural Development title in the 2014 Farm Bill, and is continuing to advocate for Rural Development programs in the 2018 Farm Bill.
