Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) has selected Jonathan Juravich, an art educator and Building Team Leader at Liberty Tree Elementary School in Powell, Ohio as a finalist for the 2018 National Teacher of the Year (NTOY). Mr. Juravich is the Ohio Department of Education’s 2018 Teacher of the Year and one of four finalists selected for the national award that will be announced in the spring.

“Mr. Juravich represents the very best of Ohio educators,” Brown said. “People across the country are hearing about the work he’s doing in Powell. I applaud the Council of Chief State School Officers for recognizing Mr. Juravich’s dedication and creativity in the classroom. ”

In addition to Mr. Juravich’s work at Liberty Tree Elementary, he also serves as the Olentangy School District’s Elementary Visual Art Department Chair and coaches middle school cross-country and track.

The CCSSO’s National Teacher of the Year Program began in 1952 and continues as the oldest, most prestigious national honors program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching.
