WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is investing more than $2.6 million in the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) to renovate its west side bus facility, the Triskett District Garage. Brown wrote a letter in support of federal funding for the project.

“Ohio riders rely on buses to take them to work, school, or appointments and then to take them back home again,” said Brown. “By investing in Ohio bus systems, we can improve service for riders and help Ohioans access safe and reliable transportation.”

DOT’s investment will help GCRTA upgrade their west side facility to better accommodate buses that run on natural gas and also replace outdated service systems. These upgrades will reduce maintenance and service costs and allow RTA to better serve riders.

Brown – who serves as the ranking member of the U.S. Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, which oversees DOT’s Federal Transit Administration – has championed federal investment to modernize bus facilities and replace outdated buses.  GCRTA was awarded the funding through the DOT’s Buses and Bus Facilities competitive grant program, which Brown secured in the long-term transportation infrastructure bill signed into law in December 2015.
