Brown Announces Federal Trade Adjustment Assistance for More Than 3,000 Ohio Workers

New Federal Funds Will Provide Income Support, Retraining, and Benefits to Workers Displacedd by Effects of Foreign Trade in Cuyahoga, Trumbull, Portage, Stark, Erie, Seneca, Wood and Hancock Counties

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has approved Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) benefits for more than 3,000 workers who were laid off when the Cleveland Casting Plant in Cuyahoga County, Delphi Packard in Trumbull and Portage Counties; The Timken Company in Stark County; the International Automotive Components Huron, LLC in Erie County; and Honeywell International in Seneca, Wood, and Hancock Counties moved operations to other countries.

"Job loss can devastate families and whole communities,” Brown said. “It’s critical that displaced workers have the financial support and skills training opportunities they need to get a fresh start. This assistance will enable Ohio workers to find good jobs as soon as possible.”

The TAA program is a federal program that provides aid to workers who lose their jobs or whose work hours and wages are reduced as a result of increased imports. The program extends benefits including training for employment in another job or career, income support, job search allowance, and relocation allowances. Qualified workers may quickly return to employment through a combination of these services.
