WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded  $4,113,491 to the Akron Canton Regional Airport Authority to enhance safety and efficiency.

“This is great news for Summit County,” Brown said. “These improvements will enhance safety at the Akron-Canton Regional Airport. These federal dollars will go a long way towards ensuring safe travel in and out of the airport for area residents and businesses.”

This federal grant, awarded through a competitive process, will be used to fund the design and construction of the current deicing facility to accommodate additional aircraft, increasing the efficiency of winter operations at the airport.  Additionally, the grant will be used to fund the design phase of the access road and to fund the design and construction rehabilitation of runway pavement that has reached the end of its useful life.
