Brown Announces More Than $1.5 Million in Federal Funds to Improve Low-Income Housing in Pike County

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $1,500,001 loan to Pike Metropolitan Housing Authority for low-income housing improvements to Vansant Commons, LP. The award will go toward rehabilitating the housing complex in Piketon. In addition to the USDA award, $9,036,359 from outside sources will go toward the project, bringing total funding to $10,536,360.

“It’s hard to hold down a job and care for a family when you’re worried about where you’ll lay your head at night,” Brown said. “This investment will help provide housing families need in order to get on their feet.”

The funds for this project are a part of the USDA’s Rural Development initiative. Brown helped secure a strong Rural Development title in the 2014 Farm Bill, and will continue to advocate for Rural Development programs in the 2018 Farm Bill.
