WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the U.S. Department of Labor has awarded $2,056,784 to Mature Services, Inc. in Akron through the Senior Community Service Employment Program. Mature Services, Inc. will use these funds to provide unemployed, low-income Akron residents, age 55 or older, with job skills training through community service assignments. 

“The Senior Community Service Employment Program allows older Americans who want to work give back to their communities as they develop new skills to become more qualified job candidates,Brown said. “This funding will help Mature Services, Inc. continue providing this critical job training to Akron’s older residents. It’s important that we support older Americans who want to work and, at the same time, ensure financial security for them when they choose to retire.”

The Senior Community Service Employment Program also provides seniors with occupational, work skills, and aptitude assessments; free physical examinations; an assessment of needs-based supportive services; and job search assistance.
