WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced $238,424 in federal funding for the University of Akron to study how to prevent or mitigate pipeline corrosion.
“Pipelines run through communities across the country, sometimes right through families’ backyards. That’s why we must ensure that pipelines are as safe as possible,” said Brown. This funding will give the University of Akron and its students the opportunity to make a difference in the area of pipeline safety by preventing corrosion of pipes that could lead to leaks.”
The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) as part of its Competitive Academic Agreement Program (CAAP). CAAP gives colleges students in graduate and Ph.D. programs the opportunity to research common pipeline safety challenges.
