WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced $3,500,623 for the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority. This funding, distributed through the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, will go toward the expansion and improvement of Toledo Express Airport facilities and is expected to save or create more than 700 jobs.

“This is a critical investment in Toledo Express Airport that will save and create jobs,” Brown said. “By constructing a new warehouse, we will ensure the continued success of this important transportation hub. This is an example of a public-private partnership that promotes the economic competitiveness of the region. These funds are key to putting the region’s economy back on track and will help strengthen Northwest Ohio now and in years to come.”

In operation since 1974, the Toledo Express Airport serves as the main airport for the Toledo area and regional hub for Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Toledo Express Airport is home to the 180th Fighter Wing,  U.S. customs, and 30 businesses, including BAX Global, collectively employing more than 2,750 Ohioans.

Toledo Express Airport will invest the funds to make improvements to the airport’s logistics warehouse and construct a new Cross Dock facility. As a result,  the Toledo Express Airport will be able to increase the volume of air freight and spur local development. According to BAX Global, the project will enable the retention of 849 jobs (276 full-time and 573 part-time), while creating 40 new jobs and leveraging $1 million in private sector investment at this facility.
