WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced more than $35 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to continue needed repairs to damaged highways in Jefferson County. The grant will support ongoing efforts by the Ohio Department of Transportation to repair damage caused by significant rainfall and landslides in March 2011, and rock falls that occurred in January 2012.

“This federal infrastructure investment will ensure modern roads that can safely transport people and Ohio-made goods,” Brown said. “This award will allow Jefferson County to continue making improvements and repairs that will boost the safety and conditions of Ohio’s roads.”

The funds were awarded to the Ohio Department of Transportation through DOT’s Emergency Relief (ER) program. The program covers repairs needed to restore locations to pre-disaster conditions, restore traffic, reduce the effects of damage, and protect the remaining infrastructure.
