WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has awarded $446,742 to the Portage Area Regional Transit Authority (PARTA) through its Buses and Bus Facilities Program to purchase one compressed natural gas bus (CNG).

“Portage area riders rely on PARTA, and PARTA has continued providing essential workers and many others with necessary travel during the COVID-19 crisis,” said Brown. “The continued maintenance and upkeep of PARTA is critical to economic and social well-being for the region.”

The project is funded by DOT’s Buses and Bus Facilities competitive grant program, which Brown secured in a multi-year transportation bill signed into law in 2015.  Brown – who serves as the ranking member of the U.S. Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, which oversees DOT’s Federal Transit Administration – has championed federal investment to modernize bus facilities and replace outdated buses.”
