WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that $560,284 has been awarded to City Year Cleveland by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to support AmeriCorps service programs. This funding will allow for 50 AmeriCorps volunteers to work with City Year to provide academic services for students at risk of dropping out at 11 public schools in Cleveland. CNCS also awarded $144,000 to Teach for America – Ohio to allow AmeriCorps members to teach in low income schools for two years in cities across Ohio, including the Greater Cleveland area.

“AmeriCorps service members exemplify what it means to serve – they volunteer to help their neighbors, support local military families, and educate communities,” Brown said. “This funding will allow them to continue their critical work to strengthen the Cleveland community.”

The Corporation for National and Community Service invests in communities throughout the United States by training volunteers, awarding grants, and implementing service programs. As a member of the National Service Congressional Caucus, Brown has worked to expand national service and to raise awareness about the critical work of national service members.
