WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that Washington County will receive $92,658 from the U.S. Department of the Interior under the 2015 Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program. Local governments receive PILT payments from the federal government to offset the losses towns and cities incur from not being able to collect property taxes on federal lands within their boundaries. These payments help local governments fund vital community services including construction of public schools and roads, firefighting, and police protection.

“These federal funds will help ensure that local governments in Washington County are also able to continue investing in their communities through critical community services,” said Brown.
