WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $5,990,999 to fund the construction of a wastewater treatment plant and additional collection lines for the City of Nelsonville. The plant will serve as the central hub of a new regional treatment area in portions of Athens and Hocking counties.

“Water infrastructure is critical to Ohio communities’ ability to create jobs and compete,” Brown said. “This investment will help attract jobs and businesses to the area, and improve access to safe and clean water in the City of Nelsonville.”

The funds for this grant are a part of the USDA’s Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants Program. Brown helped secure a strong Rural Development title in the 2014 Farm Bill, and is continuing to advocate for Rural Development programs in the 2018 Farm Bill.
