WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $59,784.86 grant to Neighborhood Development Services, Inc. to help Ohio families make critical home repairs.
“Ohioans shouldn’t have to choose between roof repairs or buying groceries,” Brown said. “This grant to Neighborhood Development Services will help northeast Ohio families get the resources they need to keep their homes safe.”
These funds are a part of the USDA’s Housing Preservation Grant Program, which provides aid to repair or restore housing that is owned or occupied by low- and very-low-income rural citizens. Eligible grant recipients include rural areas and towns with 20,000 or fewer people as well as federally recognized tribal lands.
Brown has been a leader for Ohio’s rural communities, fighting to secure crucial funding for USDA grant and loan programs in the recently passed 2019 Senate Appropriations Package. Brown also worked to include a number of provisions that are important to Ohio farmers in the 2018 Farm Bill. He is the first Ohioan to serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee in more than 50 years.
