WASHINGTON, D.C. – Mature Services, Inc., a non-profit organization assisting senior citizens in Akron, will receive new federal resources to provide community service training for older, unemployed, low-income Ohioans.  U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced today that a competitive grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) was awarded to the non-profit in Summit County.

“Too often Ohio’s older adults struggle to make ends meet. In this tough economy, many may elect to return to work,” Brown said. “This funding will help Mature Services continue providing critical assistance to Ohio’s senior citizens.”

Mature Services, Inc. will receive $3,804,007 for this project.

The Senior Community Service Employment Program is a community service and work-based program that provides subsidized, part-time training for low-income adults, 55 or older, who have poor employment prospects.
