WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced $100,000 in federal investment for the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority to continue its partnership with the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland to help individuals with records find jobs and housing opportunities.

“This investment will help make sure young people have the tools they need to overcome past mistakes and turn their lives around by working, going to school, and contributing to their communities,” said Brown.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) awarded the funding through the Juvenile Reentry Assistance Program (JRAP), which helps individuals who have served their sentences reenter society by providing grants to Public Housing Agencies who have partnered with nonprofit legal service organizations.

The funding will give the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority the ability to assist those with juvenile or criminal records up to age 24 who are residing in public housing or who cannot access public housing because of their record by helping them expunge, seal or correct their record when permitted by law; providing counseling services for their employment rights and guidance for readmission to school; reinstating revoked or suspended drivers’ licenses; and assisting with child support orders or other family law needs.
