WASHINGTON, D.C. —U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced new federal resources for two southwest Ohio police departments to hire and preserve officer positions to fight crime. The federal funds are allocated through the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program.
“Safe communities depend on the expertise of well-trained law enforcement officers. These funds will help ensure that Middletown and Cincinnati police departments are able to attract and retain the very best public servants,” Brown said. “These grants are a critical investment in the men and women who devote their lives to protecting Ohioans.”
The grant funds 100 percent of the salary and benefits of entry-level officers over the next three years. The grant also protects the jobs of full-time, sworn-in officers, officers scheduled to be laid-off, and rehired officers. Below are additional details on today’s announcement.
