Brown Announces New Resources to Bolster Firefighter Safety in Cuyahoga County

FY 2012 Funding Will Help to Improve Preparedness and Response of Firefighters in Bedford, Bedford Heights, Cleveland, and Parma

WASHINGTON, D.C. – New federal resources have been awarded to four fire departments in Cuyahoga County. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the Bedford Division of Fire, the Bedford Heights Fire Department, the Cleveland Fire Department, and the Parma Fire Department have been awarded resources for operations and safety by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

“Our first responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio,” said Brown. “These funds ensure that firefighters in Bedford, Bedford Heights, Cleveland, and Parma have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely.”

This is round 23 of the competitive Fiscal Year 2012 AFG announcements. The Bedford Division of Fire received $168,856. The Bedford Heights Fire Department received $950,652. The Cleveland Fire Department received $101,600. The Parma Fire Department received $43,456.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responders purchase protective equipment, vehicles, and gear, according to FEMA.
