WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today applauded the groundbreaking for the Whirlpool Corporation – Findlay Wind Farm. The wind farm will offset Whirlpool Corporation’s electric consumption, promoting sustainability. A representative from Brown’s office attended the groundbreaking and read a letter of congratulations.
“As this partnership illustrates, Ohio has world class workers and an entrepreneurial spirit that has led to innovations in both manufacturing and energy production,” Brown wrote. “And in this area, Ohio also lays claim to just the right wind patterns to make wind energy attractive.”
Brown continues to recognize the importance of strengthening northwest Ohio’s energy infrastructure. Last Congress, he touted the work of the Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative in its efforts to meet the region’s energy needs and create jobs for the region. Brown made the case that improving Ohio’s energy grid can attract new businesses and lead to job creation.

Although I cannot be with you today, I would like to share my best wishes and congratulations to Whirlpool, One Energy, and the Findlay community on the groundbreaking for the Whirlpool Corporation Findlay Wind Farm.
As this partnership illustrates, Ohio has world class workers and an entrepreneurial spirit that has led to innovations in both manufacturing and energy production. And in this area, Ohio also lays claim to just the right wind patterns to make wind energy attractive.
It is fitting that Whirlpool Corporation would take the step to invest in wind power here at its Findlay plant, where increasingly water and energy efficient dishwashers are manufactured. With the construction of these wind turbines, Whirlpool will offset more than 20% of its electric consumption, an important step in upholding the company’s commitment to sustainability.
To Whirlpool, One Energy, and everyone here, thank you for your dedication and commitment to maintaining Ohio’s strong manufacturing base and continuing to develop smart energy production resources that will power its future success.
Congratulations again on this special day. I wish you all the best today and in the years to come.
