WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services today reported that Ohio job loss figures for December reached its highest rate in twenty-two years. In response, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) called for Congress to support the Unemployment Insurance Modernization Act (H.R. 290) and issued the following statement:

“Ohio continues to hemorrhage jobs. Middle class families are struggling to get by. I urge Congress to pass unemployment insurance legislation. We must provide Americans with the tools to find new jobs, pay their bills, and support their families.”

The UI Modernization Act would immediately set aside $500 million from the federal employment trust fund to support unemployment services and to provide benefits to an additional 500,000 workers.
