WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today congratulated the Campbell’s Soup Company on its new solar field at its Napoleon facility. The company installed 9.8 megawatts of solar power and will hold a celebration today to unveil the new solar array. Brown’s Northwest Ohio regional representative will attend the event.

“Businesses and manufacturers in Northwest Ohio are leading the way when it comes to the innovative use of solar energy,” Brown said. “Our state is at the forefront of clean energy technology research and manufacturing, and the Campbell Soup Company’s solar array is helping cement Northwest Ohio as a hub for solar panel use. With the installation of this new solar field—and by buying produce from local farmers—the Campbell’s Soup Company is helping bring together two of Ohio’s greatest strengths, agriculture and clean energy.”

According to the company, the solar array will provide roughly 15 percent of the plant’s annual electricity requirements and will eliminate approximately 250,000 metric tons of CO2 greenhouse gas emissions. It is the largest commercial “inside the fence” (where all the electricity generated by the installation is utilized by the host operation) solar array currently in the United States.
