WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs (OJP) has awarded the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) a $1,399,909 grant. OCJS will utilize these funds for a sub-award to the Ohio Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) to continue funding the conversion of paper criminal files that started with FY2019 NCHIP funding.

“This much needed investment will help build on past funding from the Department of Justice to assist the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in their efforts to modernize criminal documents,” said Brown. “This will allow state agencies to move quickly in locating missing criminal records and address ongoing problems with the process.”

These funds will allow BCI to continue to work with the non-channeler, first funded through the FY2018 NCHIP award, and assess Ohio's criminal history records to find missing dispositions.

The NCHIP program was initiated in 1995, and awards are made annually to each applicant state and eligible territory. A Program Announcement is issued annually, which describes program goals, program priorities, application procedures, and allowable costs.
